The effects of climate change particularly in sub-Saharan Africa are increasingly taking toll on the social and economic well-being of people of the region. Having realised these, some top faith leaders in the region have resolved to explore religion in tackling the menace.

The time honoured saying that religion is the opium of the people applies with equal force in Nigeria. Pastor Tunde Bakare was completely frank recently in a newspaper article and forthright in his observations and exhortations, which as usual was mischievously interpreted as "judgmental spirit" by half-baked Christians.

Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Mr. Babatunde Balogun has enjoined Nigerians irrespective of religion, ethnic background to make conscious efforts at avoiding situations that could lead to war in the country.

The Plateau State Inter-Religious Council for Peace and Harmony, PIRPCH, has condemned the recent religious crisis in Bauchi, warning against hiding behind religion to perpetrate evil.
